Multimodal platforms play a key role in articulating the Port of Lisbon with its logistics and hinterland chains. Thus, in the area of direct influence of the Port, the emphais is the Bobadela railroad platform and the Tagus Valley Multimodal Terminal, as well as the potential North Lisbon Logistics Platform, in Castanheira do Ribatejo, which, in addition to the railroad valence, includes the river transport (inland waterway) of goods.

To the south, reference should be made to the Elvas/Badajoz Platform, which provides a rail link from the Port to the inland Alentejo and the vast polynucleated area of industrial and logistical activities in Spanish Extremadura and Madrid.

It should be noted that the Bobadela Platform is currently Portugal's main rail and road terminal and the most important second-tier dry port for the Port of Lisbon. The connection to the national railway network is made through Linha do Norte (North Line), more specifically the Lisbon - Santa Apolónia - Entroncamento section and the terminal belongs to Corredor Atlântico (Atlantic Corridor) , former Corredor de Mercadorias n.º 4 (Merchandise Corridor No. 4). The complex includes a terminal managed by IP - Infraestruturas de Portugal and three other service facilities under concession and management of different entities, ALB, Alcont and MSC-TE, S.A., which together carry out more than 300,000 container movements / year.

Under implementation, and managed by Merlin Properties, this platform in Castanheira do Ribatejo has, since its inception, maintained the aim of interconnecting with the Port of Lisbon and meeting the need for concentrated, organised and intermodal logistical areas, with potential for expansion, in the vicinity of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

With an area of 100 ha, this terminal will accommodate 22.5 ha of logistics warehouses, which are already under construction, and is mainly intended for logistics, transport, distribution, transformation and communications.

The multimodality of this platform is accessed by road, rail and river, through the recent river quay of CPC - Companhia do Porto da Castanheira, belonging to the ETE group.

The Elvas/Caia Logistics Platform plays a crucial role in extending the hinterland from the Port of Lisbon to the Spanish Extremadura and Madrid area. It has a vast area of polynucleated logistical activities and is equipped with rail links to the Portuguese ports, which will be substantially improved with the completion of the Évora-Caia link.

This platform, which recently acquired the status of a type A customs warehouse, has been heavily promoted by Transitex, Yilport's logistical operator, which has reinforced its presence in this facility with the implementation of an export warehouse.
